Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Prof H Russel Botman (Chairperson)
Prof Russel Botman was appointed as Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University in 2007. He joined the University in 2000 as Professor in the Department of Practical Theology and Missiology and was appointed as Vice-Rector (Teaching) in 2002. Prof Botman obtained a BA degree, a BTh and a BTh Licentiate degree as well as a MTh (cum laude) and a DTh at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). He is an internationally-known theologian, leader and ecumenical role-player. In 1989, he received a special award from the Town Council of Milwaukee (Minn) as a leading champion for justice and humanness and in 2001 he was a nominee of the Desmond Tutu Leadership Awards Educational Trust
Dr André Coetzee
Dr Coetzee is Group General Counsel for the international multinational media group Naspers (the business of which is conducted through MIH). He holds a B.A.,LL.B degree from Stellenbosch University, a Higher Diploma in Company Law from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Ph.D degree from the University of Edinburgh.
Dr Coetzee trained as an attorney with Werksmans Attorneys in Johannesburg and thereafter joined Mallinicks Attorneys in Cape Town where he became a partner in 1984. In 1992, he transferred to Mallinicks' London office where he practised as a corporate and commercial lawyer, managing and co-ordinating major local and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financing and other transactions in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas before joining MIH. He is currently based in London and Hoofddorp, the Netherlands.
Mr Giuseppe Ciucci
Mr Ciucci became Chief Executive of the Stonehage Group in May 1997. He joined Stonehage in 1991 in the Neuchâtel office, having previously worked at Deloitte & Touche in South Africa. In 1995 he was transferred to the London office as a Director. Mr Ciucci is a qualified lawyer and Chartered Accountant holding a Bachelor of Commerce and LLB degree from Stellenbosch University and a Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town. He was admitted as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1990. He is a member of STEP (Society of Estate & Trust Practitioners), SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) and YPO (Young Presidents Organisation).
Mr Steve Georgala
Mr Georgala is Managing Director of the Maitland Group, which provides multi-jurisdictional legal, tax, fiduciary, wealth management and administration services to private clients and institutions. He holds a BComm and LL.B degree from Stellenbosch University and a Higher Diploma in Company Law from the University of the Witwatersrand. He was admitted as Attorney and Notary of the Supreme Court of South Africa in May 1984 and Solicitor of England and Wales in 1996. Starting his professional life at Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg, he was transferred to Luxembourg where he became a partner, before moving to Paris when Webber Wentzel Europe became Maitland. Mr Georgala is a non executive director of a number of public investment funds and public and private investment companies and co-trustee of a substantial international charity fund and is now based in London.
Mr William (Bill) Frankel (OBE)
Mr Bill Frankel is Head of the South Africa Unit, at Pennington's Solicitors, London. A graduate of UCT, he qualified in June 1970, was a Partner at Birkbeck Montagu's from 1970 to 1990 when he joined Pennington's. He specialises in international corporate and commercial law, international trusts, tax planning and foreign domicile issues. Mr Frankel was secret legal consultant to Canon Collins' London based International Defence & Aid Fund for Southern Africa for 25 years and was honoured with an OBE in the Queen's New Year's honours list for services to human rights. He is Director and Trustee of and advisor to numerous charitable and other organisations both in the UK and abroad.
